Real-Time Telemedicine Application

Medicant is a real-time telemedicine application with artificial intelligence integration to help remote diagnosis. Doctors can use predefined or custom protocols to do each remote examination in the same way. During the video call, both doctor or patient can write notes that can be read any time in the future. The biggest advantage of medicant is the built-in AI system. During the video call, doctors can load different AI models to help them in the diagnosis. Medicant support any TensorFlow Lite models from computer vision solution till natural language processing. It is possible to make a consilium-like call where different doctors assess the patient’s health status. After the meeting doctors can export notes to a DICOM file and upload it on an FHIR server.

The workflow is really simple, similar to any famous video chat application. We advised using medicant for any patient-doctor meeting, since medicant is made to fulfill the needs of doctors in spite of widely used chat solutions.

Medicant does not store any patient data. AI models run on the doctor side. This saves a lot of bandwidth and computational resources on the patient side. We made the app to provide GDPR and HIPAA compatible patient-doctor meetings.
Using AI metrics has a lot of potential advantages, but it is not necessary. We believe cutting edge IT solutions can serve a better healthcare assessment by saving time and money for hospitals, doctors and patients at the same time.

Before starting:

You need to have an active Ant Media Server(AMS) license. You can subscribe through AWS and deploy AMS with just one click. Or directly subscribe to self-hosted license on our website. Ant Media Server Community Edition can be used as well.

You need to have a stable internet connection and a device that can record a video stream at least in 720p. Human skeleton detection can work on lower resolution as well, but the possibility of errors are exponentially increasing on a low resolution.

In case if you are the health service provider, you have to deploy and run AI models. Different AI models have various system requirements. For a real-time evaluation a common desktop computer with GPU support is enough. The minimum system requirements of OpenGL based AI models is usually Android 5.0 (API level 21) and higher or OpenGL 3.1 supported GPU.

  • Download the latest WAR file version from here.
  • Login to your Ant Media Server management account
  • Click “Add New Application” button on the management screen
  • Select the “Choose File” and browse to the file you downloaded in step 1
  • Select the file and click the “Upload” button
  • Add a name to the application, e.g. medicant
  • Click the “Create” button

  • Open your medicant application at “https:// <your_AMS_url> /<application_name>”
  • Select Call or Join
  • According to your selection follow the steps shown on the screen

Remember, you never give any personal or sensitive health information for anyone who is not an authorized person and who you are not familiar with. The fact that someone installed medicant as a doctor doesn’t necessarily mean the person authorized to act as a healthcare provider.

This application is not a medical application. It is built to help people (for example doctors and patients) to get connected easily anywhere with low latency and the ability to use AI models. It is designed to support, not replace the relationship that already exists between people via personal visit.

If you have doubts about talking with your partner, please ask for professional help. You can find various contact information based on your doubt or problem under the support section.
